2008 Mental Health Law Reform

During the 2008 General Assembly, historic changes were made to Virginia’s mental health laws in the areas of commitment criteria and procedures for emergency custory orders, temporary detention orders, and commitment proceedings.  These laws took effect on July 1, 2008. To learn more about these new laws and their effect on Virginia Commonwealth University, please click on the  links below.  In addition, we are soliciting feedback on the implementation of the laws to better help you next year during the Session.  This is an ongoing process and your input if valued.
